Tenant Victory!

Gladys O., who is disabled, lives in an SRO in San Francisco with her son,  who is also disabled. She was harassed by her manager beginning in June 2013, who told her she could pay her June rent with her deposit. She didn’t know her rights and didn’t think anything was wrong. But the manager gave her bad information and it caused her problems with the new landlord.

In the end, she was victorious because a restraining order against her, filed by the manager, was declared null and void by a judge. Her late fees have been lifted and her June rent will be paid by an organization that helps people resolve these problems.

With the help of housing counselor Myriam Zamora, Gladys fought hard to defend herself and her son. We won the battle but not the war. She still has no light, stove or heat in her apartment.
