SF tenant Sara Powell came to CJJC looking for some help from her landlord who has been trying to evict her to demolish the unit.

She’s been living in her place for more than three years. Lately the harassment from her landlord Hawk Lou, has escalated. The eviction is proceeding through the courts.

Here are some of the landlord’s actions:

Feb 16: Landlord Hawk Lou came to the live-work storefront and rolled up the rolling door and screwed it into the open position and then removed the mechanism that opens and closes the door. Leaving just the sliding glass door between Sara and busy 24th street.

Feb. 17:  Landlord or someone with access to the building sprayed chemicals into her electrical box cutting off the power. PG&E, the fire dept. and police had to come out because it had dangerous chemicals. She had to contract a private electrician to reinstall service.

Feb. 18 & 19:  Landlord came and heavily beat on the door.  He said it was the police department but it wasn’t.

Feb. 21: Landlord again came to the building with another man and beat heavily on the door claiming they were the police.  The solid wood door was on the point of breaking. No police officer was with them.

–Police were called out and tried to mediate between Sara and the landlord. While the policeman was talking to the landlord, he made a slit throat signal to her, staring right at her.  He did it in front of the policemen. The police officer escorted Sara back to the unit before leaving.

The police have come out every day for the last 5 days, except for Feb 20.

She filed a restraining order today, Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Here’s how you can help.

Call landlord Hawk Lou at 415-606-9863 and tell him: “Hawk Lou, stop any and all forms of harassment directed at Sara Powell and her family residing at 3109 24th Street.
Please do not threaten him.
