A People’s Budget Campaign
(ESP ABAJO) As spring rolls around, so does the annual struggle to secure vital resources for our city’s most vulnerable residents. Every year, we join forces with dozens of other nonprofit organizations to advocate for a city budget that prioritizes healthcare, education, housing, homelessness services, and more. Yet, all too often, our pleas fall on deaf ears as the city’s budget continues to favor policing and downtown real estate interests.
This year, we’re teaming up with the “People’s Budget Coalition” to fight against cuts that threaten the livelihoods of working-class San Franciscans and families. From funding for tenant counseling and legal services for immigrants, the proposed cuts strike at the heart of our communities, exacerbating the already profound inequalities that plague our city.
The budget process is not just a bureaucratic exercise; it’s a reflection of our city’s values and priorities. And too often, those values are skewed in favor of the wealthy and powerful, leaving behind those who need support the most. We have wealthy elites who are choosing between five different types of milk for their latte while thousands of everyday folks are choosing between paying the rent and putting food on the table. We refuse to be pitted against each other and will use our collective strength to advocate for the City to make budget choices with the most vulnerable San Franciscans in mind.
On April 17, we showed up in massive numbers to show our strength and advocate for the budget choices that will best serve low income and working class folks. By bringing those directly affected by budget decisions to City Hall, we’re demanding accountability from our elected officials. We’re challenging the notion that this city is a billionaire’s playground which prioritizes corporate interests – asserting instead – that San Francisco is a working-class, union town where deeply entwined communities come together to care for one another.
Our fight for a fair and equitable budget is not just about numbers on a spreadsheet; it’s about the very fabric of our city. It’s about ensuring that every resident has access to the resources they need to thrive, regardless of their income or background. And it’s about reclaiming our city from the forces of greed and inequality that seek to divide us.
As we stand together and advocate for community solutions, we’re sending a powerful message: that the people of San Francisco will not be silenced or ignored. We will continue to fight for a budget that reflects our values and uplifts our communities, because we know our strength and power lies in our collective unity.

A medida que llega la primavera, también llega la lucha anual para asegurar recursos vitales para los residentes más vulnerables de nuestra ciudad. Cada año, unimos fuerzas con docenas de otras organizaciones sin fines de lucro para abogar por un presupuesto de la ciudad que priorice la atención médica, la educación, la vivienda y servicios para las personas sin hogar, y más. Sin embargo, con demasiada frecuencia, nuestras súplicas caen en oídos sordos mientras el presupuesto de la ciudad continúa favoreciendo los intereses de la policía y dueños de propiedades inmobiliarias del centro.
Este año, nos asociaremos con la “People ‘s Budget Coalition” para luchar contra los recortes que amenazan los medios de vida de los habitantes y las familias de la clase trabajadora de San Francisco. De la financiación para consejos para inquilines y servicios legales para inmigrantes, los recortes del propuesto golpean el corazón de nuestras comunidades, exacerbando las profundas desigualdades que plagan nuestra ciudad.
El proceso presupuestario no es sólo un ejercicio burocrático; es un reflejo de los valores y prioridades de nuestra ciudad. Y con demasiada frecuencia, esos valores están sesgados a favor de los ricos y poderosos, dejando atrás a quienes más necesitan apoyo. Tenemos a la clase con dinero que eligen entre cinco tipos diferentes de leche para su café, mientras que miles de personas comunes eligen entre pagar el alquiler y poner comida en la mesa. Nos negamos a enfrentarnos unos a otros y usaremos nuestra fuerza colectiva para abogar para que la ciudad tome decisiones presupuestarias teniendo en cuenta a los habitantes de San Francisco más vulnerables.
El 17 de abril, nos presentamos para mostrar nuestra fuerza y abogar por las opciones presupuestarias que mejor sirvan a las personas de bajos ingresos y de clase trabajadora. Al llevar al ayuntamiento a aquellos directamente afectados por las decisiones presupuestarias, exigimos que tomen responsabilidad a nuestros funcionarios electos. Estamos desafiando la noción de que esta ciudad es un patio de recreo para multimillonarios que prioriza los intereses corporativos, afirmando en cambio, que San Francisco es una ciudad sindical de clase trabajadora donde comunidades profundamente entrelazadas se unen para cuidarse unas a otras.
Nuestra lucha por un presupuesto justo y equitativo no se trata sólo de números en una hoja de cálculo; se trata del tejido mismo de nuestra ciudad. Se trata de garantizar que todos los residentes tengan acceso a los recursos que necesitan para prosperar, independientemente de sus ingresos o antecedentes. Y se trata de recuperar nuestra ciudad de las fuerzas de la codicia y la desigualdad que buscan dividirnos.
Al unirnos y abogar por soluciones comunitarias, enviamos un mensaje poderoso: que la gente de San Francisco no será silenciada ni ignorada. Continuaremos luchando por un presupuesto que refleje nuestros valores y eleve a nuestras comunidades, porque sabemos que nuestra fuerza y poder residen en nuestra unidad colectiva.
